When many students first hear the term Turks, they may think it refers to the people of Turkey. In the context of world history, Turkic peoples migrated across Afroeurasia between 600 and 1600. Most Turks also converted to Islam during this period. Many of the empires we teach about were Muslim Turkic empires. How can we help students understand this mass migration of people and its influence on world history?
